You are about to be a participant in a magic trick. Visit the following website, and click on the single orange “carrot” under the words “The Original Mysterious Rabbit.”
The bunny will guess your card every time. First, try to determine how this works. Try this game several times if needed. Then, post your thoughts on how the game works on the discussion board.
This magic trick is an excellent example of the power of schemas and expectations in guiding our perceptions. On the discussion board, give us a short definition of a schema, and why you think it worked to deceive you (or most of you) in this magic trick. Next, from the list below, pick two advantages of schemas and explain why these help individuals when processing information.
Schemas aid information processing
Schemas aid recall
Schemas speed up processing
Schemas add information
Schemas aid interpretation
Schemas provide expectations
Finally, using the same list above, discuss at least one problem you see that a schema may cause for individuals making judgments.
