Intent: This assessment task asks students to focus on 2 key areas. Firstly, we want to see evidence of the REM framework in action. Through reflecting on the key components within the framework, students are able to speak about cultural safety, respect and their ability to work together with Indigenous Australians to enable optimal health care. Secondly, we want to see evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning, appreciating the complexity of our shared Australian history and the legacies we are all left with.

Task: Students are to produce a 500 word statement of what they would do as a registered nurse to ensure Indigenous cultural respect within the clinical environment. Reflecting on the REM framework (provided), students will address each aspect detailed at the 3rd year criteria level. Student will submit this within their ePortfolio. The authenticity of this task links to the fact nurses will be asked to provide reasoning for actions or planned actions in relation to care provision and/or team work.
Furthermore, students will submit a written professional development plan (template provided) that outlines their intentions for ongoing engagement and learning about Indigenous cultural respect. The authenticity of this task links to the fact nurses are asked to have an ongoing PDP for auditing by AHPRA. (20% of the marks)
