Can you help me understand this Health & Medical question?
This week’s reading will focus on one of the earliest areas investigated by Health Communication scholars: the provider-patient relationship. Providers and patients have a special relationship:
- Providers are one of the most trusted sources of information about health, disease, and illness.
- By law, providers are expected to keep what patients tell them in confidence, which may be broken under very special circumstances.
- Providers are one of the only professions that can legally recognize illness, diagnose disease, and recommend treatment.
- Providers can help invoke special laws and protections for people with chronic illnesses that can cause disability.
Look back to Disscusion Form # 5 in which you told personal stories of health and illness or think of a new story involving a provider. Reflect on how your story (new or old) involves the provider-patient relationship. Using this week’s readings, create a new discussion in which you explain three ideas central to your experience of and relationship with a provider. Think about how this week’s readings relate to your experience. Cite at least two sources from this week’s readings to support your discussion.
For full credit, you response should be between 300-350 words.
